Privacy Policy

Townie Social LLC (“Townie,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Townie Local mobile application and townielocal.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices available to you.

Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account, we may collect your phone number, which is processed through Firebase Authentication to verify and secure your account; your name and profile information; your profile photo or avatar; and your selected city, neighborhood, interests, and community preferences. Townie does not use or store an account password.

Location information

With your permission, Townie may access your device’s location to display nearby content, help you navigate to local places, and verify completion of location-based challenges. You can control location access through your device settings.

Contacts and referrals

If you choose to use contact discovery or invitation features, Townie may access phone numbers from your device’s contacts. Phone numbers are normalized and cryptographically transformed before being compared with corresponding transformed values associated with Townie users. Townie does not upload your complete address book or store the names and other details contained in your contacts.

If you send a referral invitation, we may process the invited phone number, referral code, invitation status, and related account identifiers to deliver and verify the referral.

Content and activity

We collect information you provide or generate, including events, groups, challenges, messages, photos and other media, event responses, saved events, memberships, challenge progress, friendships, invitations, reports, privacy preferences, and support communications. Some information may be visible to other users according to the audience and privacy settings you select.

Technical information

Our service providers may automatically process limited technical information needed to provide, secure, and maintain Townie, such as device information, IP address, authentication records, request logs, and error information. Townie does not currently use Firebase Analytics or Firebase Crashlytics and does not display third-party advertising.

How We Use Information

• Create, authenticate, and maintain your account
• Provide events, groups, challenges, messaging, referral, and social features
• Personalize content based on location, community selections, and preferences
• Facilitate invitations, friendships, memberships, and event participation
• Protect users, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our policies
• Respond to support requests and maintain Townie
• Comply with applicable law

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information or use it for third-party targeted advertising.

Other users

Information may be shared with other Townie users as necessary to provide social features. Visibility depends on the feature, your relationships, and your selected privacy settings.

Service providers

We use service providers to operate Townie, including Google Firebase services for authentication, databases, file storage, and cloud-based application functions. These providers process information on our behalf under their applicable terms and privacy practices. Townie may also interact with Apple services, such as location and mapping functionality, subject to your device settings and Apple’s privacy practices.

Legal and safety reasons

We may preserve or disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect the rights or safety of Townie or others, investigate abuse, or enforce our agreements.

Business transfers

If Townie is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Townie, maintain security, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our agreements. We may retain limited records after account deletion when required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or legitimate recordkeeping.

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. You can change profile and privacy preferences in Townie, control location and contacts access in device settings, and request account and data deletion by emailing support@townielocal.com. We may need to verify your identity.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Age Requirement

Townie is intended only for individuals who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly permit individuals under 18 to create accounts or use Townie. If we learn that an individual under 18 has created an account, we may suspend the account and delete associated information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Townie develops or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when appropriate.
